About Me

Self Portrait H. Chia 笳彧

Hi, I’m Chia!

I’m a Taiwanese sequential artist based in Bern, Switzerland. I make comics, manga, graphic novels, illustrations etc.. Occasionally and accidentally, I make 2D animations as well.

I love animals, nature, as well as ghosts and monsters. That’s why my artwork is full of something either heartwarmingly cute, or beautifully creepy. Growing up with Japanese manga, and later inspired by western comics, I have an eastern-western-mishmash style on panels. I have drawn different genres, such as sci-fi thriller, comedy, historical drama, and stories based on real people. Regardless of genre, my main focus is always character emotions and interactions, as I believe it’s the core of all stories.

Besides writing and drawing my own stories, I have also worked with publishing editors, comic writers and art directors in both English and Mandarin. Though my Japanese is not as fluent as the aforementioned two languages, I have a N1 certificate and have used it as a work language in other fields in the past. Currently, I’m learning German, in which I can hold basic conversations.

What else do I do apart from making art? Besides the usual reading and watching stuff, I also love to cook, brew coffee, hike and swim in the Aare. If you still want to know more about me, here’s a webcomic series for you. It’s mostly about my silly daily life moments and my amazing husband’s clever remarks.
